At some point in your wristband buying journey, you will come across the various materials wristbands are made from and more than likely find they’re pretty self-explanatory. Styles like Tyvek® (paper) and plastic are fairly straightforward since the materials are easily recognizable, but one product tends to raise the most questions: rubber. But why?
The term rubber bracelets is a bit of a misnomer, because while they are soft, stretchy, and extremely durable like rubber, these wristbands are in fact made from silicone. And yet, is there really a differentiation between the two? To be candid, not really, as the only true difference lies within the chemical composition of each. Ultimately, silicone is a type of rubber that is resistant to heat, chemicals, and UV light. Its elastic properties allow it to be stretched and returned back to its original shape, making it a very resilient, long-lasting substrate. This is why silicone wrist bracelets are one of the best styles to utilize when you want a wristband that can be worn for extended periods of time.
Rubber Bracelet Uses
Because the silicone style is the only reusable band we manufacture here at WristCo, they are popular choices as memorial/remembrance, campaign, and awareness bracelets. Custom text, logos, or artwork can be added to any silicone order, making for a completely original, one-of-a-kind wristband. But despite custom rubber wristbands being the most common, we also offer blank, stock silicone bracelets. Similar to their personalized counterparts, while plain silicone bands without customization can be worn as bracelets, they have many other uses as well. Since the rubbery surface is matte, non-slip, highly flexible, and available in a variety of colors, we’ve seen wristbands repurposed as phone and water bottle grips, luggage tags, jar openers, cable/wire wraps… the list of ingenious uses for rubber wristbands is literally endless!
